On June 16th, between 1.30pm and 4.30pm, will see the 67th Annual Garden Fete of the 8thDarlington (Cockerton Green) Scout Group on Cockerton Green.
There will be over 20 traditional Fete stalls including: Splat-the-Rat, Can-Can and Hook-a-Duck as well as Tombola, books and Bric-a-Brac.
The Bouncy Castle will be making a welcome return and the littlies will be able to enjoy a Pony Ride. The Face Painting stall is expected to be busy so make sure you get there in plenty of time.
There will be Live Music and Entertainment all afternoon; including a Punch & Judy show and a performance from the Tiffany School of Dance. The well-stocked Tea Tent will be a great place to rest and is perfectly placed for you to enjoy the live music on offer.
The 8thDarlington Scout Group have been holding their Annual Fete on Cockerton Green for the last 32 years and really feel part of community life.
In the run up to the Fete all of the Cubs, Scouts and Leaders in the Group get involved by selling Programmes to raise awareness of the day. Local businesses kindly make a donation for the raffle and to advertise in the Programme, which the Group distributes to over 1,200 homes. Whitehouse Funeral Service generously sponsor the Programmes for the Group and have been an excellent supporter of the 8thfor many years.
Cub Leader, Emma Reah, said: "Members of the Group have been working on the Fete for months and are looking forward to it all coming together on June 16th. Everyone who helps out on the day are volunteers, either Leaders, Friends of the 8th, our young members or parents and the Group are very grateful for their help. I know we couldn't do any of it without their support. This year we are very lucky to have help from volunteers from EE through Darlington Cares, who will be a great asset."
Group Executive Leader, Alec Llewellyn, said "We are very proud of our involvement in Cockerton Village life. We've been centred around the Green for our entire 103 year history.
"We've taken our community engagement up a step this year by inviting the Cockerton Community & Business Group, the Friends of Cockerbeck and Friends of the Denes along to promote their hard work.
"While the Fete is our main fundraiser of the year, it's more important to us that we create a fun event for all the family to enjoy. From Face Painting to Pony Rides to the Tea Tent we hope everyone will find something they can enjoy.
"For those interested in becoming a Leader, volunteer or learning more about the Group, I really recommend our Information Marquee which will have displays on what our members do and will have a film about one of our Summer Camps showing during the afternoon. Children can sign up to join the Group or adults can find out how they can support the Group."
